contact your states BON. You may get a card with your certification # on it. but I have heard that some states are going away with the card and using the BON website for verification, just go to thier site and search your name and your certification should show up, but you should contact them if you have any questions

Comment:
In the state I live in, they do not give a license or certification # to CNA's. When I became a CNA 10 years ago, we didn't get anything but the letter stating that we passed. Now days, they don't even send that because employers are able to look up that information on the internet/state website. Check your state's Board of Nursing website.

Comment:
It's a certification not a license. In my state the State Health Department handles these.

Mine was a certification and I knew right after the exam I passed (they handed me print outs to keep/take to employers). I recieved a letter approximately a month later telling me I was officially in the system. For my state I go to the cna portion of the BoN website and am able to find the registry. For employment, my supervisor went to the registry and I put in my SSN to be looked up in the system then they printed those pages for my file to state I really am certified with a clear record.

Comment:
For ours you go online after 2-4 weeks and you print out your card.

If your state still gives out paper certificates, it will probably be a few months longer before you receive it. This is the time of year when all of the vocational schools are testing their high school CNA students. The BON/Health Dept/whoever gets really backed up from processing so many applicants.

You get a certificate not a license. I live in Illinois and you get an envelop after you passed the state exam. You get a certificate/diploma from the state and a piece of paper saying you passed the exam and you don't have any convictions on your record. It might take a few months for you to show up in the system, so they give you the piece of paper.I got my paperwork 5-7 days after I took the exam.

not trying to be smart here..but in NC cnas are NOT LICENSED....they are certified and only na 2's are listed on the BON....na1s have a whole other registry that they fall under.

Comment:
It all depends on what state you are in if you are a CNA or an LNA. In NH all nursing practice is required to be licensed, incuding Nursing Assistants. When I took my course it was through the college and I was Licensed. When I moved to FL, they made me a CNA and instead I now have a Certification. From the NHBON website: "NH has a mandatory licensing law. No person may practice as a nurse or nursing assistant without a license."What state are you in Marissa?
