why is a person so evil?..... venting here

Another night at work I had a patient. And the patient was feeling ill.... so I called the MD, got orders, and the patient was still not feeling well. so at 7am I called the MD, and he did not call back untill after I left.
The next nurse kept egging the patient on and saying "oh she didn't do the right thing, she could of done more for you"
and on the nurses station she was making accusations of me that I was sleeping because I did not do anything. when in fact I did everything I could in that situation. I even had the charge nurse assess the patient, and the charge nurse said the patient was fine.
and this nurse even told the manager who inturn had to go in and talk to the family of these patient, and the patient was so upset.........through the night the family was so nice to me because I knew that they knew I was doing the best I could. but this nurse just completely egged them on that I did not do a good job.
I know 100% in my heart I did the best I could in this situation, and I would of done the same thing in any other situation possible. I treat all my patients with the same care and compassion, and for someone to accuse me and riducule me infront of patients and management is not right.
And this nurse does that to everyone, and she always finds faults in any situation.
There are many times that I have caught a med not being given and I give it. Another nurse that I do not like once the parent was like "oh I need to speak to the manager" and I said "is there anything I can do for you" and she started complaining about this nurse.... and all I did was calm her down and tell her that the computers are for charting, and I am sure she is doing the best she can for them...
I don't understand why people have to be so evil!
I dont think unless that patient was in someway in immediate danger, nurses ever need to degrade one another in front of or to the family. If I have a concern about another nurse of their practice I will most definitely bring it up to them, when we are safely outside of the patients room and prying ears. Berating nursing staff and skills does nothing but foster a complete lack of trust and make patients and their families insecure which reflects negatively on everyone.

frankly, i think this should be a firing offense.....

It is not acceptable for a nurse or any person in medical field to tell the patient that her coworker did not do a good job. It is a hospital policy, that we should never tell the patient that the other nurse is lazy, she doesn't work hard, she did not do much for you etc. What I hate the most is when they tell you face to face that you are an amazing worker with great personality and once they leave your sight they complain. I wonder how some people become nurses when they have no warmth in their heart. Just ignore those miserable people and keep doing you job. You are right, when a patient complains about a nurse that was previously taking care of that patient, you ask what happened? What bothers you? Is there anything I can do? But you do not support the patient's opinion for that particular nurse. When I first started working (first day at work) a person complained to my director instead of coming to me and telling me that I was doing something wrong. Some people just don't like to help or they have nothing better to do but complain.

My question is...how do you know (and I mean truly know, not just gossip) that this nurse has done everything that you believe she has done?

i don't agree that she is necessarily evil...more like, miserable.and we know how that goes...you need to call her on it.leslie

Bumblebee- One of my biggest pet peeves, is a co-worker who will talk negatively about one of their own, to patients. It's completely unprofessional. Unfortunately, I think we've all run across people like this. I certainly have over the years. They never have anything positive to say, no matter what the stituation is. And many times they are the main ones making mistakes, yet they only see what others have done.Quote from roser13My question is...how do you know (and I mean truly know, not just gossip) that this nurse has done everything that you believe she has done?

This came from the charge nurse who is not my friend, so I know it is a reputable source. And based on this nurses personality (the evil one), I defintely beleive them.We have a med error comitte that looks at anything with medications, and when a med is missed, this nurse goes and tells the manager..... and she shouldn't because we have a med error comittee that handles these things....

I don't understand why this nurse is such a strange person, and they can never be talked to. I hope that their personality gets better.I think I am going to speak to the manager when I am less emotional about this issue. Because this person should not be doing that in front of patients.

Comment:
There is never an excuse to degrade or even criticize another nurse in front of a patient or their family. If the nurse really cannot be reasoned with, you should speak with your manager or Human Resources department. This is more than an annoyance; it is a potential liability for you and the hospital.

Unfortunately I have been here. The problem is if the nm gets it in for you because of this nurse it is best to get out of this job. Unlike other jobs as a nurse they can not only get you fired they can try to get you into trouble with the state board. So not worth it. If it is not at that point yet I would confront this nurse privately and let her know if she has a problem with something you did she needs to come to you first. Period!
