Advice on time lapse since graduation

In 2010, I graduated with my BSN. I took the NCLEX one time and did not pass. Before, I could take the NCLEX again I lost a child. In Louisiana (pretty sure it is the same in most states) you only have 4 years to take and pass the NCLEX. I am not sure what to do. I hate to think that I just wasted my degree. Anyone, have any advice on states that will allow you to test even if you take a refresher course or some type of job I could do with my degree? I am even willing to go back to school. Open to any advice just please be kind. I know I should have retested in the allowed amount of time but I cannot explain how hard it was when I lost my son. It's not something you ever get over. Thank you.
I think Ohio lets you take a refresher rather than go through an entire nursing program again. Good luck.
