New Job (FINALLY)!!! PBDS Testing??? Anyone know about this?

so, i am in the cincinnati area and have been out of work for 2 months almost, i actually have a job with 2 different agencies but no work in the cincy area, so i took a contract in columbus. anyhoo, i have to do this pbds

testing and am a little nervous about it, i have 3.5 years experience. any input would be greatly appreciated.

I just had to take this back in Feb. They show you a very short min or so video of some medical scenerio with a patient. You just see the pt laying in bed as you would if you walked into the room. It then shows you a flash of lab values, heart monitor etc that pertain to the Hx. You can only watch the video once. You will have a pretty much blank page on your screen where you must write the medical diagnosis for the patient. Then in order of priority exactly what actions you would take as a nurse, what medications the Dr. would order, what labs he would order, what tests he would order, and what you would report back to the Dr. In addition, you must add a rationale for each action, intervention, test, lab, med etc.

Make sure you write down the most obvious things, things you would do without thinking, like taking vital signs.Also, make sure you write down that you would contact the doctor.

Explain in as much detail as possible, even down to swabbing the medication port with alcohol before giving medication. Detail, detail, detail. At one of the hospitals I worked at a few years ago, if you didn't "pass" you actually had to take the test again. Thank goodness I must have passed since I only took it once (but that was plenty enough!!). Good luck. Just remember DETAIL.

I don't think you have to worry.

It usually isn't a big issue if you hire on as staff, as it is used as intended, as a "development" tool.However, for travelers, it is used as a screening tool (not it's intended use) there is no second chance, you fail....you are out.
