CNA to RN - HR asking for notice they're ones who told me I can't work

So my employer told me that I am no longer able to work as a CNA once I pass boards because I will be overqualified for the position. I understand this, but they told me that I should put in a two week notice. I have not accepted an RN position yet, so I am not in a hurry to put in notice as i'd like to stay internal as long as I can. Why are they asking me for a notice when they're the ones who told me I can't work when I pass NCLEX? Is it better to put in a notice or just wait til they let me go cause i'm overqualified?
Soon to be in a similar boat myself, but you better believe I won't turn in a two weeks notice! If they want to let me go for being "overqualified" they'll have to do it themselvs. If you put in your two weeks notice, you won't be eligible for unemployment. If you lose your job on THEIR end, you should be eligible. At least in CA. I also don't expect them to try and pull that on me, leaving me jobless with absolutely zero income. I'll need that unemployment bad at that point.
Yep, sounds like they don't want to pay for unemployment which is usually defined as losing your job through no fault of your own. They may say you can't work because you are overqualified for their internal liability purposes, but I doubt working in a job where your duties are within your new scope of practice will be seen as a valid reason to let you go and absolve them of their requirement to contribute to your unemployment claim.I'd suggest doing some research on your state's unemployment info page as each state administers their own unemployment program.
