I am currently in an Lpn evening program. I go to class Mon-Fri 530p-1030pm and on Saturdays 8a-4pm. I am a cna at a hospital and I have been doing 7a-3p lately but man it is killing me. By the time I leave class during the week, I get home around 11p, try to study for about 2 hours and am getting an average of 3-4 hours sleep a night. I am thinking about changing from 11p-7a that way i can get off in the morning get some sleep and maybe have more time to study. Any opinions???? Anyone changed from day to night shift and how did you adjust?
I started working nights(7p-7a) 3 years ago after working the day shift got too stressful. It took me several weeks to acclimate to a night schedule but everyone is different ofcourse. Working nights may be a good option in your situation if you can get enoughsleep during the day. Good luck with your program and I hope you find a solution to get more sleep, I think Iwould be so crabby with 3-4 hours of sleep no one could stand to be around me.

Comment:
I loved nights. I was free to do what I had to during the day, and even though there were fewer nurses, there were also fewer people returning from surgery. In LTC, it was still busy, but a different kind of busy.
