Where to move up to?

I'd like to, in the near future of the next two years or so, making an advancement away from the hospital bed-side. Currently I have 2.5 years experience in pulmonary medicine - 1.5 years of lung transplant (patients were >1 year post-transplantation...back for pneumonia, rejection, renal failure d/t meds, etc) and 1 year of critical care/step down w/o the transplants.

The health system I work for currently has transplant coordinator positions open which really peaks my interest, am I too 'new' for a position like this? It requires 3 years and a BSN ...so I (almost) have the basic requirements posted. I also work at times in the ICU at the hospital I am at because my unit is 'sistered' with the ICU.

Are there any other recommendations as to what I could do that's NOT management but just a little bit away from the bedside? I love patients but I just know I can't do the hospital forever.

You won't know whether they'd consider you unless you apply! I'd say get your CV in and see what happens.When looking for an alternative career in nursing, consider your own ambitions and play to your strengths. I can't suggest a specific field as I don't know what's available in your area, but don't settle for something that constitutes a waste of your knowledge and experience just to get away from the bedside.

I think she was thinking along the lines that the job requires more education and experience. Therefore it is an advancement.

I think I'd get whatever credentials they wanted and go for a transplant coordinator position. Good luck!

I am a renal transplnat coordinator (have been for 9 years) and love it. I love what I do with my pts. Seems each facility has different expectations as far as what a transplant cdoordinator does. Do you know if you would be doing pre or post transplant? The lung coordinators here do a bit of both. Anyhow good luck with the application. Let us know how it goes for you!
