What reason is used for call offs!Rating: (votes: 0) So when ever anybody calls off I never ever ask for a reason I just ask when their next shift is and if they think they may be back. This doesn't mean staff don't provide me we reasons why they are calling off, over the years I have heard some excuses and sometimes I have to bite my tongue not to say 'ARE YOU KIDDING ME' 1/ I have to go to the airport and pick up my girlfriends daughter-really! 2/ My car wont start-so I am not bothering to find somebody to drive me 2 miles to work 3/ I am annoyed with my co-worker so I am not coming in today 4/ I am tired I had a busy weekend (not tired from working, was a weekend off) 5/ So and so always calls off so I am calling off today 6/ The cable guy is coming 7/ I booked a dentist appt 8/ My doctor only works on a Thursday 9/ A tree fell down in my garden 10/ It's my once a month migraine What I want to say is please dont tell me why you are calling off, I don't care because if you tell me it makes me mad ![]() My absolute favorite when I was working as a sup at a LTC was when an LVN called in because her goat was giving birth...it was her favorite goat She was a great nurse, and very consistent worker, so when she called it wasn't like she did it all the time- but her reason was definitely unique Her co-workers were also consistent w/attendance, and someone came in for her. I laughed Comment:
One time I called off because I needed a mental health day. I was working FT and in nursing school and I needed a break.

One of my co-workers, who is also a good friend outside of work, confided to me that she uses her FMLA to take days off, even though she's not ill. Talk about burning me up to hear that. Her favorite days to take off are the weekend days, of course. She once called in sick on a Saturday night and texted me that night saying she was at a stripper bar with her boyfriend to celebrate his birthday. Another time she sent a text to me saying she was too drunk to go to work and was calling in and using her FMLA excuse. This was also on a weekend. Wish she hadn't told me.

I was thinking about calling off recently ..... then I realized its not my style. I was thinking I would never call in sick if I wasn't sick unless I was dead or something similar. So then I though maybe I should just call in dead. I ended up just sucking it up and dragging my miserable self in and working when I really really didn't want to.

I rarely call off, but I understand the once a month migraine one. Many migraines (mine included) have hormonal components. I only call off if I am vomiting or close to it, but they can be pretty miserable none the less.

A co-worker called in and claimed having vaginal itch. I mean, really, is that something we NEEDED to know? Of course after she hung up everybody all the way to India knew the reason why she called in.:smackingf

At my last non-nursing job, lots of people called in because of sporting events, especially the World Cup and the Super Bowl. One woman called in because of church activities.

I once had an employee call off because he was having penile leakage and thought he should have it checked out. Like we need to know that.
