A good counselor or psychologist should be able to help you identify the triggers that put you in a funk. Then you locate a job that has fewer triggers. For instance, I worked as a pedi nurse for years, but the parents drove me nuts. Finally I left pedi and am doing much better.Good luck! Comment:
Hi classicdame Having dealt with family members in this situation I believe it would really help if you spoke with a professional sometimes we don't do that because of the stigma that is attached to it which is all due to ignorance might I add .You may be amazed at what you find is triggering your slump. At times we feel defeated but it's what you do after the fall that makes you a fighter. You can do it

How do you help yourself? Just do it. Stop wallowing in self pity and put one foot in front of the other. Not to be crash but how are we supposed to know how to help you if you can't help yourself?

I've been stuck in depressions but they never last long for me. I do the work necessary to get out of it.Put one foot in front of the other and get moving on with your life. Read self-help books, talk to a therapist, fake it 'til ya make it.

A good counselor and support system go a long way. On this site you will find a lot of caring people and a few, well... not so much.....utilize the good and disregard the bad. Best of luck

I am VERY shocked by a couple of the responses. Depression is an illness, it is a chemical imbalance in the brain. It is no different than thyroid disease or kidney disease. It really shows ignorance and lack of compassion to tell a clinically depressed person to just get over it. I can only hope that that person isnt in the medical field. I hope that the original poster seeks help and gets back to her beloved field of nursing. We all have times where we question our skills and abilities and feel inadequate. Those that don't need to find another career. I hope you do well and thrive and I hope those that don't have any compassion to someone that is in pain and asking for advice get out of the medical field. They are the ones that dont belong and should be questioning their abilities.

Maybe start in slowly with a per diem job? Work once a week? Sometimes I find that if I'm not working crazy hours and not completely drained I actually enjoy going into work, seeing my coworkers, being part of the "nursing family" so to speak. It'll get you back into doing what you enjoy doing and being around some familiarity without causing you the stress that comes with the long hours, etc..
