Trachs and incentive spirometry

I know patients who have had Trachs and laryngectomies need an adapter to perform incentive spirometry, but are there cases in which a person has a trach and can also use an incentive spirometer through the mouth?
Sure they can if they occlude the trach or their trach is capped.
