Oncology help!

Hi all, I'm starting my next clinical rotation at an outpatient cancer clinic next week. I was hoping for some tips or good resources that can help me to better prepare. I appreciate any and all help! Thanks
I recommend reviewing major chemotherapy drugs and then how to assess for the most common side effects. Will you be allowed to do IV inserts? Some patients will have central lines - try to learn how to differentiate between them (nurse should be able to tell you) and why one type is preferred over another. There is always fear and anxiety to deal with - so brush up on therapeutic communication. And remember, a smile goes a mile!

Comment:
If you're allowed to access a port... listen to the patient as to where it is if it doesn't stick out and look for the old access marks.

Check out this site:Chemotherapy - ChemocareIt has good information about the drugs, pt. teaching, etc.
