New RN

I'm a new grad RN working OB Peds near my house. I'm still on orientation. I've never really had a real job before and I've been home with my kids for the last 7 years. I feel more like a Student than a new nurse. Some of the nurses are not so nice and belittle me so to speak. I can't say they have been directly rude to me but you know those feelings you get? There is a lot of gossip and talk behind other nurses backs and about patients. There is one nurse in particular that makes me feel stupid and uncomfortable. They don't look at me when they are speaking or giving report and I get so frustrated. I'm so nervous and anxious and I need some advice. Are they testing me? Will this get better after a few months?
Sounds like most places, as a new nurse you have to develop thick skin. Sorry to say but nurses do eat their young. Don't get intimidated and do the best you can. Keep asking questions until you feel comfortable.Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com

I agree. its better to ask questions and try not to be intimidated. it's a normal obstacle. it'll help you grow.

I'm a new grad RN and was let go 1 week before my orientation was up. I'm devastated as I have 2 small children to support. Luckily, they are giving me 2 weeks pay to look for a job. Should I use this job on my employment history when looking for a new job or not?? Anyone else been through this?? Any words of wisdom??
