Working per diem only?

Who here works only per diem exclusively and always manages to make their full time hours? What do you do for insurance? And is it better? Just wondering about the pros and cons of bring just per diem?

I used too. I either had a private policy or was on my husbands insurance. I got hours, sure, but with children it was impossible to have immediate child care so I had to get a set schedule. If I didn't have to worry about the kids having good care I would always work PRN. But I was also in LTC where you loose nurses often so picking up hours is always possible. It also makes budgeting for bills and living expenses a pain.

I do. No problem getting full time hours. I'm on my husband's insurance, and my kids are teens, so no problem with them staying by themselves. I will never go back to regular staff, if I don't have to. I work when I want, and if I want to take a couple weeks off, I can without refusal.

I did this for several years. I purchased my own insurance and my kids were covered under their father (my ex).
