I live in NE PA.The local hospital pays $17/hr.The place I work I get $23.10/hr. I am pre-diem, so no benefits or PTO. I have an 80 mile commute. I like the flexibility of nursing, but I do not like the horizontal violence.Nursing is stressful, but also rewarding. You can survive on the pay, but you will not have a family and a lot of extras in life unless you want to work a lot of overtime.

Associates degree in nursing in the Pacific NW. I've been an RN a little over 2 yrs and make $39/hr with shift diff and grossed 79k last year with minimal OT.What I like about my job is the patients and what I hate is mostly administration coming up with new procedures and bs paperwork to make our jobs harder but to cover their a**.

1. what is your degree in? associate degree in nurse science. i also have a diploma in vocational nursing because i was an lpn/lvn (licensed vocational nurse) for four years before i earned my rn license.2. what state do you live in? i am in texas.3. what is your job title? i actually have two jobs. i am an rn staff nurse at one job (the rehab hospital), and an rn supervisor at the other job (the nursing home).4. how much do you make an hour? one job pays me a $36 hourly prn rate in addition to a $6 per hour shift differential for working night shift. the other job pays me $28 hourly with no differentials.5. how much do you make a year? it depends on how often my shifts get canceled. your shifts are not guaranteed if you work at a nonunion facility. virtually everything is nonunion in texas.6. what do you like about your job? the flexibility of being able to pick and choose the days that i want to work.7. what don't you like about your job? i have no benefits such as health insurance or a retirement plan. the visitors and family members of the patients can be hostile on occasion, and i'm still forced to be nice to them because management values the results of their customer service surveys highly.
