Be careful what you divulge

38 I was chatting with a coworker who looked at me and said, "Are you on AllNurses.com?"

I replied, somewhat noncommittally, "Yeah, why do you ask?"

She said, "Are you ♪♫ in my ♥ ?"

I smiled and said, "Yep."

This is someone with whom I get on very well and with whom there's respect and camaraderie in both directions - and I don't think I've posted anything which I'd prefer not to be ascribed to me but it does drive home the point:

Be mindful of what you post... you may end up owning it and the internet is forever and ever.

I'm pretty sure that anybody who's read a lot of my posts and who works with me could ID me without too much trouble - and I'm mostly OK with that but in >4,000 posts over the last 6 years, I've probably said some things that I wouldn't necessarily say for attribution...
I can't like this enough!!! It's important to remember that while AN is "anonymous" oit is public and it doesn't take much to KNOW who someone is....I am ALWAYS careful what I "let out" an when I do it is premeditated and well thought out.

Haha! I can't agree with this enough! Ive been on here for 2 years and young naive me used my name! Luckily I can say I stand by nearly everything I've posted, but have recently had a moment where people is my class asked if this was me on allnurses!Privacy is a privilege and I have given up that privilege!

And don't forget about all of those people using their real picture as an avatar! No one even needs to guess who they are.

So true! I have recognized a coworker on here, only because this coworker used his real photo as his avatar. Never told him I recognized him though

Big Brother is EVERYWHERE. It reminds me of what my mother used to say, "Don't ever say anything aloud that you don't want repeated." Nowadays I guess it would be, "Don't ever post anything you don't want shared with the world."

Yep, fairly sure I could be ID'd based on my posts. Definitely more careful now than I used to be.

Same!! A younger me from years ago posted some facts that could maaaaybbbee pin me, but now I'm a lot more careful haha.

When I first started here in 2001, I was new to the internet. I used my real name and a real photo. Very dumb. I don't share with folks where I work anything about allnurses. Sometimes I vent here.
