Non Clinical DNP degree ?

Rating:

I was hoping somebody could help me figure this out. One of of the colleges I previously offered has a DNP nursing leadership. It doesn't have any of the typical nurse practitioner classes that that are clinically based (ie advanced health assessment) and is primarily leadership/management based

Has anyone ever heard of this?

It has a clinical practicum requiring 800-1000 clinical hours, but I believe these are leadership based.

Applicants are required to have a masters master's degree but it doesn't need to be in nursing, as long as it's "related"

Would I be an APN/DNP with a degree like like this?

I had never heard of this before and an extremely confused
I don't know much about that, but it sounds iffy from what you've described.I wouldn't be comfortable diagnosing and prescribing, even if the State allows it

Not all Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees are clinical/nurse practitioner degrees. This one is a leadership based program directed at nursing managers, administrators, etc. People pursuing this program wouldn't want to be advanced clinicians and therefore would not want the clinical courses. You'll want to look for a clinical DNP-NP program if that's what you want.

Having a DNP does not automatically grant you prescriptive authority. I'm looking into several DNP programs, either with Leadership or Community Health. Neither of these types of programs make me an advance practice nurse with prescriptive authority. Rush University has a Public Health DNP programArizona State University has a DNP program in LeadershipUniversity of Washington has a DNP in Community HealthUC Denver also has a Community Health DNPUniversity of Pittsburgh has a DNP in Administration

Quote from mhy12784Well its catered to management and administrative. I wouldn't plan on doing things unrelated to it. It just sounds odd

What kind of opprotunites are there for non clinical DNPs ?Like what would be the advantage in me being a DNP in leadership vs an MSN in leadership or admin or something ?
