New spinal cord procedure

1 Medical news this week involved a new procedure for spinal cord injured patients with paralysis. The pt had cells from his olfactory(which regenerate) to his injured spinal cord. That area regenerated and the pt is using an exo-skeleten and walking with this. Currently receiving intense physical therapy and continues to improve. This is just amazing and imagine how it will affect the future of spinal cord patients. There are still many clinical trials to be done but so far it is just absolutely wonderful!!! Maybe this will also lead to improvements in MS and Guillian Barre patients!!!

That's for spinal cord transection. I just read that a single protein dysfunction has been determined to be a (if not the) cause of ALS. This may be the one thing that blows open the door for finding the exact cause, if not cure, for Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases. The story at hand, though, is nothing short of amazing. Getting CNS nerves to regenerate and return to some function, combined with other advances might make the next few years really exciting!

As someone who has cerebral palsy, I found this amazing... it gives me hope that maybe one day I will walk on my own!
