LPN and Ventilators

Hi every one just have a question, can a LPN put the internal setting on a vent? My job has crossed trained me to set up ventilators in homecare setting due our shortage of respiratory therapist, Im not sure if this is in my scope of practice. Also I was told that while acting in this position I should not be touching the patient because it is not part of my job , but what happens if a person codes while I am exchanging the vent.
I would contact your state's LPN Board and ask the question in writing and see what kind of an answer you get. Everywhere I have worked in home health, nurses have been warned not to touch the vent settings. Hard to believe that your employer would have you do the job of the RT and you are to be held responsible? Ask your Board.
