Narcan infusion

Would you feel comfortable with a narcan infusion on a telemetry unit?? I recently had a young drug overdose who came up from the ER on a Narcan infusion. When I questioned the shift supervisor about the pt being on a telemetry unit versus IMC I was told the patient could come to us. Doesn't it seem a patent airway would be a concern?? I had suction set up if needed, but really why wouldn't this pt go to the IMC??
The last overdose of prescription opiates patient that I had required a bolus of narcan every half an hour or so in addition to the narcan gtt. He would become apneic and desaturate. MDs refused to intubate that person and I was very uncomfortable with the whole situation, and this was in a MICU.It is unsafe to try to manage a pt on a narcan gtt on a telemetry unit. The shift supervisor who allowed this unstable pt to go to telemetry should be specifically mentioned in your report to risk management.
