do they look at your grades/volunteer stuff?

Rating:

hey!
i was just wondering if having good grades, doing a lot of volunteer things, and running your nursing club in college will help you get an edge when looking for jobs? do you know if they ever actually look at that stuff?
thanks!
they will not look at your grades. I am not sure about the nursing club thing, but I do know that they will look at the volunteer thing. Anything that would normally go on a resume they will look at (no one puts grades on their resume, but I have put that I graduated with high honors next to my degree)

It all depends on the specific circumstances. If there are a lot of applicants for a job, the employer will look much more closely at your application and consider things like your grades, etc. However, if there ar very few applicants for lots of open positions, then the employer tends to be "less picky."
Comment:
All they care about is that you passed and that you have a valid license. That said, most employers want to hire the best people, folks who are motivated and self starters. Volunteering would go on your resume and shows a potential employer that you are interested in your community, that you are willing to go the extra mile, and that you are a self starter.

yeah i think so, but i guess your experience would be the edge among the others. these things would show that your competent enough for the job

Phil. heart center & ust hospital require a board rating of 80+.I agree that when there are many applicants (like what we have right now) hospitals tend to be picky.there are other factors that they can consider like the school you graduated, academic honors,trainings/seminars attended, etc.its up to them to weigh whose better & hire them.
Comment:
They might not look at your grades individually, but if you belong to an honor society, or you put a very high grade point average on your resume, do community service and other activities that is definately going to stand out and work for your advantage. Especially if there are more applicants than positions. For example ICU or a speciality, they might give you with the good resume the position and steer someone else towards med-surg where there are more openings.
