I need some advice. I have been working on a busy medical unit in a hospital for about 2 years. I just graduated, so this has been my first nursing experience. At first I really loved it. I loved the patient contact, helping people, etc. Lately though I feel that I've grown disenchanted with it all. I'm sick of hearing the same complaints from patients and families and tired feeling so rushed and busy all the time. Frankly a lot of the time I feel more like a glorified waitress than nurse! At first I found my job challenging and exciting, now I'm feeling bored with it almost.
They have a training program at my hospital for nurses who want to get into the ICU and I am strongly looking into doing that. Is ICU a good place? Are all your patient's intubated and you miss the patient contact? Any input would be very appreciated! Thanks!
