Accellerated MSN vs. BSN

Hi, I'm having a dilema about my school choices for this fall. I've been accepted to the UCLA MECN program where I will get a masters in nursing, but I'm not sure if I want to go. I live in San Diego now and I love it here. I'm applying to Cal State San Marcos for their accellerated bachelors program. I understand UCLA is a great school and that I will get a masters degree out of it but I really like my home town and I feel like school would be more comfortable for me down here. I'm trying to figure out how much of a help to my nursing career an entry level MSN degree would be. It seems like initally there is no difference but what about in a few years when I want to teach or specialize? Is it worth the move and all of the extra work? or is it just a feather in my cap?
I think you need to ask yourself what is your long term goal with nursing and go from there. If you are undecided with your long term goal, I would research how much more money can you make with the MSN vs BSN. There is a shortage of nurses so you will get a job regardless. Also, is the other school in a different state? If so you will have out of state fees. If it were me, I would not move especially If I am comfortable and love where I am. But the ultimate decision is yours, weigh all the factors. Good luck
The Maters is indeed an investment in your future and wouldn't be useless to you, but it's not something that you will use immediately because you're going to will be taking entry level bedside positions at first. If you're young, I would advise going this route.The accelerated program has it's benefits as well, since it will keep you close to home and will get you working quicker. Then you can decide on a MSN program later on down the line as you decide what areas of nursing you're interested in and if you want to specialize in something specific. MSN's can be in many specialties and it's hard to say the MSN you get at UCLA will be one you actually want.
