ER or OR?

I've been an RN for almost 17 years and I'm still trying to find my niche. I started out in psych, first as a staff nurse...then as a supervisor...and although I loved it...I got tired of it/bored. I have also worked in NICU (loved the work, but not the commute), L & D (hated it!) and most recently Adult Critical Care (Its OK...but I will never Love it)
I may soon have the opportunity to work in the ER or OR and I don't know which direction to go...was hoping for some advice from people who have worked in either of these areas.
I should probably mention that I am hearing impaired...and wear hearing aids and read lips....I can hear a little with out them, but miss alot...I hate having to take my aids out to use my stethoscope...the less I have to do this, the better. I also really enjoy giving 1:1 care...which is why I decided to try ICU...Any advice would be most appreciated!
