Hopeful CNM Not Sure about the Correct Path

I am in dire need of some advice about the best route to becoming a certified nurse midwife. I have a BS in Sociology, and am thinking about a direct-entry Women's Health Track MSN program at Salem State College. I was told by the school that getting a BS in nursing would be repetitive, but after 15 months of the direct-entry program I would become an RN before moving on to the graduate level courses.

In the Boston area, there aren't many choices of Midwifery programs. I not sure if I should plan on online-midwifery training after getting my MSN from Salem State. I can also take less traditional midwifery training courses along side my academic training, but I don't know if that work will be recognized. Is there a certification test for midwives?

Boston University has a CNM program, but it is too expensive for me. I already have loans from my earlier degree...

So any advice, experiences, experiences, etc would be much appreciated!
