Motivational helpRating: (votes: 0) Sherry It depends on what they are complaining about.Bulletin boards, high fives, nurse of the month etc, are fine, but only go so far. These can help in a unit needing a morale boost. A unit with deep underlying problems would not be helped.Far more powerful morale boosters include nurses getting lunch everyday, nurses who are helping each other out, nurses who have control over their schedule. These are not quickly or easily accomplished. Comment:
Yes I know that it will only go so far. I truly believe that management tries to make things right but our biggest problem is nurses who call in and leave us short-handed.

I have seen bulletin boards with qoutes, motivators in your life, healthy tips for diet, stress relieve in the work place, some with discounts posted for local concert and shows. Every so often they change it to match the holidays: easter, thanksgiving and so on. It's all hands on by the staff.

We have a recognition board. If someone does something nice for you or goes above the call of duty you write their name and what they did for you. Each month there is a drawing and the winner gets a little something. We are now thinking of doing a pay it forward kind of thing because teamwork seems to be low. I was trying to think of how we could do this in a creative fun way and started thinking maybe we could get little pieces of yarn or something a different color for every person and when someone does something to help you you tie a set length of your string to theirs and whenever you reach X length you get something. Still in the works
