Advice needed before I graduate in May

I graduate in May. My plans are pretty much set in stone that I will be moving across the country. I am in West Virginia and will be relocating to Orange County, CA. I've begun saving up my money for the move. I've yet to get an extern job though. There are 3 hospitals around me that do it, and I continue to fill out applications and call. This is a main thing that concerns me. I also have nothing to put on a resume for experience. I do clinicals during school, but I'm not sure if hospitals consider that much experience. Should I start emailing and calling hospitals within OC and explain my situation and ask for any tips? I feel contacting them before the Spring (when most people do) would be better, but I don't want to jump the gun.
