Opportunities for more

I am an ER nurse in Illinois right now with a California nursing license also, 1 year experience. I am looking for some ideas about what to do next. I'm bored with my current position, I'm tired of cold Illinois winters, and I'm broke because of my high student loan interest/payments. I need something more... I have been exploring travel agencies but they're making things extremely difficult and I am under the impression that it's difficulty to get federal loan repayment for working in underprivileged areas / federal institutions / indian reserves because I do make a decent amount of money on paper but it's really not as much as it seems... Any ideas?
