How much should I get?Rating: (votes: 0) We don't know what the wage scale is in your area, so it's hard to say, but earning 1/2 of what an experienced nurse earns seems low.Are their other benefits, financial or otherwise, to the position that help make it worthwhile? Comment: IMO, $10/hr for an RN is pathetic. Don't sell yourself short. I find it insulting to be offered that low! If I were you, I'd look for another job. Good luck!Comment: The experienced nurse is only getting $20.00???Comment: This position has no benefits. The only benefit I see from this is gaining experience which is the demand here in NYC area. The clinic is not in Manhattan but Brooklyn/Queens area.Comment: Wow. That doesn't seem like a fair wage at all. I earned more than that when I was a CNA. As an LPN I earn more than your supervisor does now. I wouldn't trust them to negotiate a "fair" wage after three months, because I really doubt that they're going to double your pay.On the other hand, it's actual real nursing experience you can put on your resume, and it might be worth it to stick it out while you look for something better.Comment: $10/hr and no benefits, in the NYC area? Please, do yourself a favor -- see if Starbucks is hiring if you need income. They give benefits if you work more than 20 hrs/week, and in NYC, probably pay more than $10/hr (or close to it, anyway). I understand about wanting experience, but you don't need experience this badly!!!Comment: Wow. Is this a nursing job or is it a babysitting gig? in NYC? unreal!!!Comment: Whoa! Minimum wage in NYC is $7.25/hr. You will only be making $2.75 over minimum wage...and with NO benefits? Keep looking. Your education and experience is worth more than $10/hr.Comment: This is working at an infusion clinic? They are ripping you off. IMO, it's not even worth the risk you take working for that on your license. You are going to be infusing people with medications, and that is all they want to pay you? Something is fishy. Our CNA's make more than that, and I'm in western NYComment: Depends on area I guess, but you are worth way more than $10-20/hr. We start new RN grads at $20/hr with 5% increase after 1 year and they are able to be on clincial ladder after one year which raises base another 10%. This, plus per diems for working weekends and nights add up. And I believe we are low, but you can still buy at 2500 sf home in this area for less than $200,000. I think it unfair for you to get half of her salary but if she has been there a while and content with the low pay they may be looking at you as new grad who will "work up" to her salary. Just does not work for meComment: this appears so egregious i am almost inclined to question that facility's compentancyComment: If the agency is trying to short-change you that much, I would be highly skeptical about all of their other practices. They might not think twice about putting you in situations that are very risky for your license. I live in a midwest metro area that has a cost of living far lower than NYC. New grad hospital RNs start here around $21/hour day shift ($25 night shift) with regular pay increases. I would run away from that agency. Maybe you could consider commuting or moving a bit outside the city? Smaller suburbs/towns are less stuck on the BSN-or-bust bandwagon (or insisting on experience).
