Debating on extra phlebotomy training...help!?

Hi Everyone! I'm new to the site. I am a student nurse working on my LPN for now. I have an opprotunity to attend a 2-day training course for phlebotomy certification. I know that when I graduate (Fall 2013) that I will be able to perform blood draws, but what I'm trying to decide is whether or not the additional training/certification will be beneficial for me. My thoughts are that it might give me that upper hand when it comes to finding employment after graduation, and also will give me something to fall back on if I'm unable to find a nursing position right away. I recently obtained my CNA license also. I'm open to suggestions and opinions because I'm just not sure at the moment. I want to learn all I can and get as much experience as possible, but at the same time I don't want to waste hundreds of dollars on something that won't even really matter. Thanks in advance!
Go for it! It will make you much more qualified for 'clinic' type jobs including physician offices where back office (clinical) folks are frequently required to perform a variety of skills.
Take advantage of it!! I took a phlebotomy course last semester after asking permission from the instructor and explaining my goals. It was a great class to take. When I had told the instructor after rocking my final (I had horrible luck during practice draws) that I was into the nursing program she was excited and mentioned that I would be an asset to my classmates when we learn injections and IVs. I also believe that one can not have too many pertinent skills.
I wish that I had an opportunity offered to me in this area. I am an RN and I practically begged a major teaching hospital here in Richmond VA to allow me to gain experience so that I can be confident and perfect my skills in this area since we were not given this opportunity in school. This unfortunately never happened even though it was promised during my interview. You should take advantage of any and all learning opportunities...it will only benefit you and your patients in the end.
Where are you I graduate this June 2013 and could like to enroll in a EKG phlebotomy classes the one here is above 5000 for a 12 wks. Looking for a weekend program in PA
