To go or not to go for RN?

I've beena LPN for approximately 2 years and have had a wide variety of jobs thus far. I am 34 years old and haven't decided if I should REALLY go for it? I've searched and searched online for programs , and certain programs where I can take my time but I truly can't find the right fit? Like for example if I want to go online but only take one course at a time? Can I do that or do I HAVE to be in a program? And would like to do it online as well? Any suggestions on a good online school to go for RN? I've also heard through the grapevine that there is a possibility that all LPN will have to be RN and that they may eventually phase us out? Any ideas out there?
LVNs/LPNs will never be phased out. They may not be able to get certain jobs (ex. In a hospital) but there will always be jobs elsewhere. There are online LVN/LPN to RN programs online. There is Excelsior College, Indian State University & WGU.
Hmm - from what I've heard, WGU has a non-traditional approach that is a close match to your needs, but they may not be available in your area. If you really want to go for an RN, I'm sure that there are probably some 'hybrid' programs (online + clinical practicum) in your geographic area.If you are seeking an RN for fear that LPN jobs are going away, you may want to re-think. IMO, as reimbursement tightens, there will be increasing pressure to decrease costs in all areas of healthcare. I think that we may even be seeing more LPN/LVN & MA/CNA jobs and fewer RN jobs - especially in non-acute settings.
