How long did you stay at your first nursing job, and if it wasn't a med-surg position.. how long did you stay on the med-surg floor before you ventured out? please tell me about your experience
I have stayed at my first nursing job 3 years and counting. I work in the NICU and wouldn't want it any other way!

Quote from Sl1011You started at the NICU? How easy was it to get that job? My friend landed a job at the NICU where I'm going to be working... and it's her first job too. I think it's really nice I'll be on the surgical floor.

I worked medsurg for 3 years and then transferred to ICU in the same hospital. I'd never have it any other way. Learned a ton on medsurg, but happy to be gone. I'm very thankful for my experiences there and they got me where I am today.

I went straight into operating room and stayed at my first job 3 years. Just moved to another job 3 months ago.....

I stayed at my first nursing job 9mo full-time. I was offered my dream job at a community health center so went to that full-time, but stayed PRN at the first job (med-surg) for another two years.

My first nursing job lasted 45 minutes, through no fault of my own. I stayed at job #2 for 13 months.

Stayed at 1st job 6 months, married and moved out of state. 2nd job, 2 years, both jobs ICU.

I have been a med-surg nurse on a same floor for about 2 years. I wanted to move to a specialized area but I began to start liking this med-surg nursing. I probably specialized in this med-surg field.

I stayed in a med surg floor for almost 2 years then moved out of state to start in my dream job in a ticu at a teaching hospital, best decision I ever made!

When I was in school I said I would stay in my first job for a year then go traveling. I accepted a grant from a local hospital that required 2 years, so I compromised and said I would stay 2 years. By the time I got to 2 years I was starting to work charge and I like that so I stayed nearly 5 years. It was step-down telemetry but essentially ramped up med/surg.I finally went traveling, enjoyed it but got it out of my system. Several years later I finally got into a specialty; NICU. Love it.
