Specialty area?

Good day fellow nurses. I'm a newbie nurse here.

I'm just confused with what accounts for a specialty area? Well, I'm thinking of transferring to another area in the hospital after a few months of experience in our general ward (where we handle everything, med-surg to OB cases when the OB ward can't accommodate anymore). Thanks for your reply.
