Going into Home Health-Palm Pilot or what?

I am moving from the hospital, where there are lots of reference materials, to home health as a Case Manager. I was wondering if Palm Pilots are outdated or if it would perfect for downloading medication apps as well as other types of reference. I don't want to spend 600.00but I have to have easy reference for teaching and safety.
Palm Pilots are totally outdated, also, software is expensive. While I keep a drug book on hand for peace of mind, I use an iPhone with various applications, some are free and worthwhile.

iPhone Droid or blackberry is the way to go. I would spend $600 on one of those x10 before a palm pilot.

I have a verizon phone (Samsung fascinate) which has the Android operating system. I'm not a nurse yet, by I am a student, nursing research assistant, and EMT. I was able to download lots of great free (and inexpensive) apps that help with meds/conditions/treatments/etc. It has everything I need for work, plus the internet (to look up anything not in those apps), music, and the basic messaging and phone calls(!). (How much longer till people start getting "phones" that don't actually make calls...)

Go itouch. I have:Free:Medscape DrugsMicromedexEpocrates (student)I bought:Davis Drug Guide (let it expire) But might renew it because it has great detail on nursing info for admin, and eval, and teaching, lab values, etc. etc.

Yep, they're out. I don't have an iphone, but they have ALL THE SAME apps available that the Palm did. Heck, even my Motorolar Droid 2 has all the ones I ever found years ago for Palm. There are some really cool free ones, and there are others that you pay from very little to a whole lot for that probably don't do much more than the free ones. What I'd do personally is wait until iPhone comes out with their Verizon models which should be soon since they're now out of the contract with AT&T. I really like my Droid though because I have the slide out keyboard, and my man fingers work better on that for anything more than a "hey whats up" text or internet search.Another option would be the iTouch that the above poster mentioned. They're neat devices and all the iPhone apps are downloadable to it. You can also getan app that'll let you text from it. I used to discount smartphones, but mine has truly become my pocket brain. I look up so much crap during the day on it. Just earlier I was looking up something about a tv show, lol.Forget the Palm, and just say no to Crackberries. I think they'll be like the Nokia in the next five years.

If you can possibly swing it, get an iPad. That thing will do everything but your laundry and it is easy to use. I think I spent about 1200 on mine. WELL worth the money.

Imthatguy, you would look totally awesome and very hip with one of these! You can carry an EMT bag and look just as macho...but with a compartment for tubes, L-scopes, IV bags, and meds...too bulky! Every single surgeon that I work with carries a computer bag. They don't look metro to me, just very prepared. But we are losing focus of the OP's request...should she get a Palm or something different?
