Does this make sense?Rating: (votes: 0) Are you done with your BSN? Comment:
op: msn/mba combo degrees are what are preferred... usually clinical administrative nursing positions require msns. mbas alone will land you the non-clinical positions that do not require a candidate to be a nurse.
Comment:
My facility prefers an MSN/MBA dual degree, but one of my classmates got a management position at an agency with an ASN and an AA in public health administration, so it depends on where you want to work. I think a lot of hospitals, these days, might prefer an MBA over an MSN, if you could only do one or the other. Of course, you could start a pretty heated debate over whether that makes sense!Healthcare is a business, and a pretty complicated one, at that, so an MBA does make sense. As long as it's in addition to and not a substitute for common sense and nursing judgement.
Comment:
I have friends with MSN in hospital admin plus an MBA. You can get both at same time in some universities (like Univ. of Texas)

My manager has a BSN, and is pursuing a Master in Healthcare Administration.
