Working as a software consultant RNRating: (votes: 0) Has anyone here taken such a position, and/or does anyone have any words of advice on this? I have been unemployed for 7 months, and the job market is awful -- especially for a nurse with limited experience. I say, take what you can get in this job market. Worry later about your versatility. Make a move later, if you can. Comment:
As a software consultant I can suggest you take the position. Helping with software that make jobs more efficient is a great feeling of accomplishment. Plus, when you transition into a better job in Nursing that you like you might actually use the software you helped work on and you can assist your co-workers Go for it!

Have you looked into nursing informatics at all? There is a forum on here about NI which is very informative and can probably answer some of your questions and possibly guide you a bit.

heck yeah take it! Computers are now a huge part of nursing. It can only help you---and once you get into it, you may not want to leave it!

Take it! I have had both patients and computers crash on me; it's much easier to reboot a computer. And although they **** me off from time to time, I've yet to have a computer puke on my shoes or wear out the call light.
