Discussions always so hostile here?

1 Is this a place for nurses to "grow, learn, and network", or just some place for people to pick fights, who happen to be nurses?

what a disappointment. I'd hoped to find a professional site, and reconnect with a part of my life that has been lost through disability, but is still a huge part of my life. What a waste.

Are most of the people here really this angry?

Nursing is not the career it used to be. Times have changed. Things are pretty tough and nurses (and students) are under more stress than was common in the "olden days." A lot of people come here to vent because we have to vent somewhere or blow up and hurt somebody.

I don't see it as that angry.... just people being people. Not everything can be cupcakes and lollipops, sometimes you just need a good vent, or to read others and know you are not alone in the way you feel about the issues of nursing.

Yes...when you are responsible for people's lives on a weekly basis, it can get a little tense.

It's not always hostile. Believe me, you will NEVER find a site where everyone agrees, and is nice all the time. There are lots of people on here willing to help others with problems, but I suppose everyone has their own agenda and gets busy too.Have you ever considered that a heated discussion is good for the brain, makes you think, and spurs you into action sometimes?Don't give up on AN just yet! Not everyone is going to agree with what you post. You will always find nasty people anywhere, I either ignore them on here , or just send them a disagreement post. But you get used to it, and there are a lot of nicer ones on here. If you find a site where no-one is nasty and everyone agrees, let me know - I really mean that too! The nastiness on AN, I must admit, has increased somewhat since I joined anyway. Maybe it's to do with stresses in the US economy? Who knows.

EXCUSE me.... I've been an RN for 26 years- still have my license, and have had more stress in nursing than many of you will ever understand....if you haven't been in this for a good 15-20 years, you don't have a CLUE about the olden days. Lollipops and cupcakes? Talk to me about cancer, chemo, epilepsy, bone spurs on the c-spine, dysautonomia, diabetes, just to start... Life is hard. DUH..... but being nasty to each other is a choice. It's unreal how experienced so many new grads think they are- In a decade or two, maybe you'll understand..... maybe. I've "unliked" the site (worst bunch of nursing posts I've ever seen)...now to spam it in my e-mail.Those who have been doing this for a while would have a lot more credibilty .... again JMHO (and working on getting rid of this from my inbox)....

XTXRN,Please reconsider. Your experience is valuable. Your personal experience, what you have been through and your unique position of being on both sides of the profession makes your input realistic. We can all learn a great deal from you and your experiences. I have noticed a recent trend in "snarkiness". This forum is a great place to talk, vent, discuss and debate. I ask you to please ride it out for a few weeks and see what you think. Opinions and thoughts can be quite brazen from time to time, but there are also discussions that are very insightful. Can you please give us another go?

Does it even matter? It's just going to be responded to with hate, condescension, or (at best) apathy.... Still working on that spam setting......or just need to take my glasses off - LOL

I know there are some heated posts on here, no one can deny that.There are also some very informative posts on here, professionals discussing topics that have been very beneficial for me. For example, I was looking for some information on tpa and I just searched for it on here and found what I was looking for.Just my opinion, not all of the threads are arguments. Sometimes I just bypass threads that look like they can get heated and focus more on learning what I can. Now I am a nursing student so my need for information is far different from yours.
