Warning about MedCEU.com CE Provider

1 Some CE providers are claiming accreditation but they aren't when you go to confirm it. One example is www.medceu.com . I use to be registered with them. It was pretty convenient ...you pay a flat fee like $35 and you could do unlimited for a year. You read some material that was decent and did a post test and print a certificate. Later I and some other nurses noted that we were double billed one year and later found out that they were not certified through the ANCC or any ANCC approved certifier. They have a warning about them on the ANCC approved provider/certifier list. For some reason they are still in business. I talked with the ANCC and they said they had filed complaints with numerous regulatory agencies. I guess technically you could use them for contact hours from non accredited sources but I won't because of the double billing, false advertising and the fact that they send you email ads constantly ( I had to finally cancel an old address). They never answer emails and have no phone number.

Yikes! Thanks for the timely warning. A nurse acquaintance just told me about this company and I spent a bit of time looking the website over just a few days ago and actually planned to register this week. I think I just changed my mind....Thank You! And sorry you had such problems.Vickie

Thanks for posting this. You probably saved many of your nurse colleagues money, time, and headaches.

Hi,I was going to sign up for medceu just now and my husband said, "maybe you should check them out" I'm now glad I did. Thanks for the warning

Sorry I didn't run across your notice before this. I have quite a few 'credits' with this company but found out that they were not accepted by my state, FL. This state uses a web site called CEBroker.com that keeps track of our ceu's. They are extremely inflexible however and seem to have a good thing going for themselves. They will sell you all the ceu's you need and you have to subscribe with them for full service at the rate of about $35.oo per year. Seems to me to be just more corruption at the state level. I sure don't see why the state can't do that job itself. Anyway, I am left in the lurch without verifiable ceu's.

Does anyone have any experience with Medscape.com? I have ceu's through them also.

I just learned from my employer that medceu.com is not accredited to award ceu's. After doing a google search I found this post from 2004! I feel like a fool! I have been using them for years. I too was once double billed but American Express took care of the charges when I called them. I am also a little peeved that I have been a member of allnurses.com since 2001 and never saw this post before. Why is this company still in business?

Back in 2001 I wrote the ANCC about this company. This is what I got from them:10-05-2001, 12:01 AM #1 (permalink) User ProfileP_RN Quite tired RNI got this from the ANA :Date: Wed, 03 Oct 2001 09:06:02 -0400 From: Barbara Feild <[email protected]> Subject: medceu -Reply To________edited my addy out_______ Quote:P***, Medceu is not an accredited CE provider with ANCC. They erroneouslyclaim to be approved through one of our approvers, the Alabama NursesAssociation. I also know that they claim to be approved through theCalifornia board of nursing, but are not. I have had manyinquiries/complaints about Medceu. I have been told that both the ALNurses Association and the Florida board of nursing are pursuingMedceu on criminal charges.Aren't you glad you asked?Barbara FeildSr. Accreditation Specialist800-284-2378, ext 7263 __________________________________

If any of you have unresolved issues, I would encourage you to file a complaint with the BBB. I have had great luck with scammers and other illegitmate business by contacting the BBB. I don't do it very often, but the few times I have filed complaints, it was in my favor to have filed against them. For MEDCEU: The Better Business Bureau National Information System

I agree - state board in Florida is fining me $372.00 because I took a class from these folks. Thanks a lot medceu! How can these people be stopped?? And how can you get them to stop sending e-mails and NOT allowing to unsubscribe? Help!

I am so thankful for this post. I was about to sign up for medceu for my CE units for my license is about to expire this year. Can anybody suggest where you took your CEU? Thank you.
