I wrote: Remember, no one takes advantage of you without your permission. Learn to say No to ridiculous demands, overtime, extra shifts, taking yet another admission when you're already maxed out. And don't forget to renew yourself daily with meditation, prayer, music, exercise, whatever helps to center you and keeps you sane.

I wrote that new nurses should try to find a unit that they sense an openness and teamwork atmosphere. Feeling alone on the floor and stressed is the fastest way to burnout city!

I said: If you get time for a lunch break, leave the floor (don't eat while you chart!). Hide in the clean utility and say the F word a few times PRN. Use your PTO. Don't pick up extra shifts. Journal. Exercise. Eat ice cream. Vent on allnurses.
