Tea Causing Vomiting?

Rating:

Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone had ever heard of tea causing nausea and vomiting. I am not a coffee drinker, but if I drink tea on an empty stomach in the morning, it causes severe N/V. I'm pretty much OK if I drink it later in the day and if I have had a snack. Even if I don't vomit, the nausea lasts a few hours. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this.
Thanks
Yeah...depending on what kind of tea...usually black tea with its high caffeine content makes me wanna hurl ! Z

Tea gives me horrible heartburn any time of the day, so I avoid it. Now coffee, I drink it all day, but if I drink too much I get nauseated.

Hot tea like green tea and black teas will make me nauseaus too. Not always, and I haven't figured out the rhyme or reason for it. I drink green tea for the antioxidants, it usually helps if I take it with a meal.

Yup. I can't drink tea on an empty stomach either. I assumed it was the tannic acid, because I can drink gallons of coffee, and just get jittery, not nauseated.

Wow! I didnt expect such a strong response! Anyone know why tea causes this? Rumi, I drink green tea for the antioxidants too, but the nausea is horrible. Does it have anything to do with the quality of tea...I mean a no name brand versus Earl Grey or something???

Comment:
I just drink sweet tea, so I don't know about those fancy hot teas, lol!!

Comment:
I also assumed it was the tannic acid. Not sure though.

Comment:
I'm guessing it's the tannic acid. Black tea has less caffeine than coffe, so it's not likely that.I drink manage to drink hot tea, black or green, on an empty stomach with no problem.

I love a little tea with my sugar. lol ....I can't drink it because it gives me a kidney infection. Why? I have no idea!I can drink cokes, coffee, no water at all and be fine. If I drink a couple glasses of tea, I am in pain. So, I'm sure it has something to do with the make-up of the tea that my body can't handle, and your body can't handle it in a different way.

Comment:
I have also experienced nausea with drinking black teas and colas, probably due to the caffeine.

Hello, Green tea contains tannins (polyphenols) therefore:Tannins are astringent, bitter plant polyphenols that either bind and precipitate or shrink proteins. The astringency from the tannins is what causes the dry and puckery feeling in the mouth following the consumption of unripened fruit or red wine[1] Likewise, the destruction or modification of tannins with time plays an important role in the ripening of fruit and the aging of wine. There is also a chance that leafs of green tea (any tea) where collected at a premature state when tannin element is present at its highest. Best thing is to have a snack while drinking tea Regards
