Amputation prosthesis fitting

Hi Everyone,
I have a question about post-op amputation care. What is the difference in purpose between delayed prosthesis fitting and immediate prosthesis fitting? My book lists care, positioning, exercises, d/c, etc, but I'm not sure why the physician would choose one method over the other. Can anyone help?

It can be the surgeon preferenece, the reason for surgery eg was it PVD, diabetic foot or another reason?

Swelling needs time to go down, and the wound needs to heal first to prevent infection. That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Hmm... tough one.
