I have been taking care of pt with ileostomy. I was shocked to see her stoma pitch-black. It is moist and it functions correctly. But I thought black stoma meant it's necrosis and it is in danger of sloughing off. Doctors and other nurses of course know about this since the patient came to our TCU (fyi, Tcu is b/t nursing home and hospital) weeks ago like that. Why isn't she getting a surgery to repair the necrotized stoma? Am I missing something?
