Sign on bonuses

I know in Las Vegas a lot of the hospitals do a lot of sign on bonuses and have a lot of incentives to come to their hospital. Do you see a lot of that where you live?
No, not since the 90's.

Negative. Hospitals up here practically want you to pay them for the priviledge of allowing you to work for them.

I do, only if you have experience. I've seen anywhere from $500-5,000 or 10,000!

Belle1005 Im glad some people still do it. I know a lot of people have to have experience or sign a contract promising a certain amount of years. I have even seen hospitals offering trips. Maybe it's mostly a Vegas thing.

I'm in Tampa and I see it a lot for certain hospital systems. I'm jealous of the experienced nurse but I got lucky with a job I wouldn't trade for anything.

Only for experienced/well-qualified in critical need areas. And most of the time, if they're offering big bucks as incentives, you don't want to work there!

Is there a nsg shortage in Vegas??? Or are those particular hospitals difficult ones that have to offer incentives just to recruit staff? Are they on strike, or anticipating a strike? Like others have said, incentives are mainly a thing of the past. I would think with California so close, many would have considered relocation even without the relocation bonus.But yes, there are some facilities that do have recruitment incentives.

There is a hospital in my area offering sign on bonuses, and the reason is that it s such an awful place to work. You have to sign a 1 year contract an get the bonus after a year. I know 8 people who have broken that contract and walked away from the bonus. I do not know anyone who as gotten the bonus. From my experience, anyone offering a sign on bonus in this job market is setting off a major red flag.

The ones offering on bonuses are the ones you should run away from.

When I graduated in 2011, I heard of a hospital in McAllen, TX offering $15,000 sign on bonus. Still not enough to make me move that close to the border lol
