Suctioning and O2

Use for supplemental oxygen while suctioning .. Do you use a mask then ? Do u want to deliver 100% oxygen ? What about someone with copd?
textbook world use a NRB mask. You give supplemental oxygen one minute before and after procedure. It would take several hours to knock someone's hypoxic drive out, and not every COPD patient breathes with their hypoxic drive.

We use a bag-valve mask on 100% O2. We pre-oxygenate, suction, then post oxygenate and continue this until the suctioning proecedure is complete. You are taking oxygen away from the patient, so there is little risk of a COPD pt becoming over oxygenated.
