Panic Mode - Need a clinical site!

I'm finally seeing the light at the end of a very long tunnel! I live in Texas and I'm on my last semester of an online program (LPN-BSN). It's been extremely challenging to get clinical sites because 99% of the hospitals here have a preference. You either have to work for them or attend a local university and have an instructor present. Most nurse educator won't even return my calls or emails. I've gone in person but then they say I must have an appointment. Does anyone have any suggestions on where and how to obtain a clinical site in the DFW area? If not in DFW, I am willing to travel to get the required hours done.
What school are you attending?Does the program have a partnership with any of the hospitals in your area or elsewhere?How many credit hours do you need for each clinical area?How much did you pay this school for clinical practicums per credit hour?

Indiana State University. I need 135 hours and no they do not have partnership with hospitals in the area. They do have "contracts" with hospitals near the area BUT these contracts were made through employees already working at that hospital. Most hospitals here will precept their employees or if the student is affiliated with local universities. I work in Home health...which I truly enjoy.

I would ask the advisor to send me a list of hospitals that accept their students. If they don't provide any help with finding clinicals, I would file a grievance, request a refund and transfer my credits, then notify the Indiana State Dept of Higher Education.I can not imagine paying money to a state university that does not make arrangements for their students' clinical experiences. It was good of you to warn others of the pitfalls of this online school.

Thanks for the advice, however, the grass isn't greener on the other side. The purpose of this post was to see if anyone has advise on how to find a clinical site open to online BSN students, rather than make the school look bad. It's a good school - like other online programs - they do have their challenges but otherwise a good experience for me. For those who are seeking LVN-BSN program, it's convenient and no waiting. However, I would caution that you should be employed at a hospital as it is a challenge locating a clinical site.

My organization no longer accepts any 'independent' pre-licensure rotations or clinical experiences. We still allow (already licensed) grad students to do specialty precept/training but there is just too much potential liability associated with the former. If a school includes this option, they need to ensure that it is still do-able. If they are aware of restrictions or problems, it's unethical not to share this information with potential students. Everyone deserves to be fully informed before making such a serious commitment. Fingers crossed for you, OP! Hope you find a solution soon.

Sounds like a scam, for-profit school. I've only heard NP students needing to hunt down preceptors, but RN students?Smells pretty fishy.
