I grew up in Gastonia. I didn't attend Gaston College but several friends did (not nursing though). I have never heard anything bad about the school. I pass it every time I come back to visit family. Just found it interesting someone mentioning that area.

I didn't go to Gaston College, but I went to a different school in Charlotte. I've heard plenty about all of the schools in Charlotte, but not much about Gaston. They do all of their clinicals out there, and most of their students seem to get jobs at Gaston Memorial or one of their other facilities. I believe their NCLEX pass rates are good (which you can look up on the NCBON website). Maybe you should try to repost your question under the NC nursing schools forum. You may get better replys, or even see a similar post. Or maybe find information about another school in the area that sounds like a better fit.

Ok I will try that thank you

I didn't apply there, but I did talk to the program director (she was super nice). All I know is that they use a points system. I know that the science classes are weighted more (totalling 20 points). I remember this b/c I was going to apply before I had taken them b/c they are not officially "prereqs" and she said that not having the science classes would cost me 20 points therefore making it almost a waste of my time. That's all I know about it. Good luck!

Pre-nursing student here. My perception is that all of the community college programs in NC have a very similar structure in terms of requirements, admittance procedures, and coursework. Obviously teaching staff are a huge X factor, and I think that the NC BON info would help you with that. BTW, check out Mitchell Community College in Statesville. Not sure how far a drive that is for you, but they have good 5 year pass rates.Linky...http://www.ncbon.com/content.aspx?id=1090

Hello : )I am in the ADN-RN program at Gaston and I am graduated May 2011 (30 days!!). I am 27 with a child and a part time job. This has been the hardest experience of my entire life. I will say, this program has some of the most helpful, experienced, dedicated nursing instructors around. They are always there to offer advice, help, and a shoulder to cry on. The one thing about this program is, if you are not 110% committed, it wont work. It consumes your whole life and basically becomes your life for 2 years. But, it is soooo worth it : ) Good Luck to you. If you ever need any help or advice my email is [email protected]. I live near Dallas. And, dont wait until halfway throught the semester to ask for help if you are struggling. Get on track early! Good Luck : )Jess
