Is a doctor's order required for an RN or LPN to administer a PPD? Why do some long term pharmacies fill the serum as a house supply without a prescription?

Thanks!
No, it's been my experience that a physician's order is not required. We have people come into our clinic for TB tests for work or school regularly, and we do not require an order to place/read a PPD.

Comment:
In my experience, depending on the setting, it is a part of the policy and procedure, so the "doctor's order" is covered in that way; it still needs to be documented as an order, and the doctor will "sign off" on the order.
