VA CBOC RNs?

Rating:
(votes: 0)

Hello fellow VA RNs!
I'm currently in acute care, but have an opportunity to transfer to a CBOC. The hours are great, and I hear it's less intense (physically) that acute care--no pt turning, lifting, code blues, code browns etc...

Problem is, I don't know anyone who works at a CBOC! So, I'm hoping RNs here who currently work or have recently worked at a VA CBOC can provide some information about what the job entails, and what your day looks like? What do RNs do?

I welcome all feedback!

Thanks so much!!
I can help you there. Yes, it would be less physically demanding, but at least at our CBOC you can be just as busy as in an inpatient setting. As an RN you'd probably be a care manager. We do chronic disease management (seeing patients for DM, blood pressures, etc), patient teaching, the usual nursing stuff (shots/ekg/ear washes) and TRIAGE. Lots and lots and lots of triage. Both on the phone and walk-in. Expect to be on the phone a lot and be prepared for pretty much anything on the other end of that phone and/or walking in to the clinic. Feel free to PM if you need more info!
