taking pulse on CNA exam

During the exam you have to take the pulse with two nurses. I am a bit confused, do I finish taking it with the first state nurse, one wash my hands, document, end skill and then restart and take it with the next one ? I know if i document too early I contaminate the pen so what do i do?
