Daniels smartsharp container

Nurses at my jobs throw IV tubings in the sharps container and make the container unable to do it's job which is to drop the sharps in the container. Are we more at risk for sharp related injuries now because a sharp can possibly be at the opening of the container or does it drop it off anyway as far as the tubing
Why are your coworkers throwing tubing in the sharps container? Tubing isn't sharp, is it? Is it possible to ask/tell them to dispose of the tubing in a more appropriate manner? The container must get full in no time at all, the way they're doing it now

Comment:
I worked last night and saw what appeared to be a secondary tubing in the sharps container which made it get stuck and couldn't function properly even though the container wasn't full. I bumped into it and now I'm wondering is it possible I could've been exposed to anything sharp in there

Generally you feel it if you're poked with a needle.

Are they throwing the tubing in because of the spike perhaps? My facility policy is that the spike is considered a sharp unless it is connected to a bag. So it goes in the normal trash when the bag is still spiked but if not, goes in the sharps. However, when putting it in the sharps container, you just cut off the spike itself, not put in the whole tubing set.

Have any of you guys bumped into a sharp container by mistake? Did you feel like you were at risk? What Lind of container you use

Two posts on the same question?? I'm wondering why you are living in fear of half-full Sharps containers?http://allnurses.com/general-nursing...-a-990005.htmlHas one ever ejected its contents onto you? Have you even come close to being stuck/struck by a projectile used needle?

Comment:
The sharps are INSIDE the container so if you touch the outside or bump into it the sharps will NOT have access to you. If someone went past the fill line or put some tape in with a sharp that allowed it to stick near the entry point then yes you can get poked .This usually occurs when a help care worker tries to discard a sharp in a sharps container past a safe fill point of is some object or sharp is stuck in the entry hole or point of entry. So you need to be mindful of the pitfalls to protect yourself. However once safely instilled in the sharps container. ..you are good!

So far all 13 of your posts here have been obsessing over potential body fluid exposure. You need to get help for your phobia or get out of healthcare. http://allnurses.com/nursing-career-...ml#post8389293
