Learning Spanish

Does anyone have suggestions or advice on learning Spanish as a second language? Were there any resources or tips that helped you?
Some Spanish-American associations may offer classes. However, if you truly want to be able to communicate with patients about their care, you should look into Spanish for medical professionals. Some colleges may offer such a course. Whether they allow non-matriculated students to participate is going to be dependent upon the school's policies. If you are looking to learn Spanish just to be able to speak it, have you looked into resources available at your local public library? Mine offers Mango Languages at no cost for library card holders. Definitely doesn't go into medical terminology and probably won't lead to complete fluency, but will assist in learning enough of the language to be able to communicate if you were, say, traveling in a Spanish speaking country. If it's the slang you want to learn, either find a friend who speaks it as a native language or try the D!rty (language) series of books available on Amazon.
